Barco Closes Sale of Advanced Visualization to Toshiba
February 3, 2009 – Barco closed the divestment operation of its Advanced Visualization (AVIS) activities to Toshiba Medical Systems Corp., Tokyo, Japan, in a move by Barco to focus on its medical display systems business.
Based in Edinburgh, Scotland, the AVIS group is specialized in 3D clinical software solutions, marketed worldwide under the product names ‘Voxar 3D’ and ‘Voxar 3D Enterprise’. Toshiba now owns all AVIS assets, including its full product portfolio.
The decision to sell its AVIS activities arises from the strategic refocusing of Barco’s medical imaging division, concentrating all resources on the development and marketing of medical display systems for diagnostic, surgical and clinical imaging along with custom-built solutions for medical OEMs worldwide.
Details of the impact of the operation will be given with the announcement of Barco’s first quarter 2009 financial results on April 22, 2009.
