GE Healthcare, Hansen Medical Announce EP Lab Collaboration
November 12, 2008 – GE Healthcare and Hansen Medical Inc. said this week at the 2008 Scientific Sessions of the American Heart Association in New Orleans they are working together in an effort aimed at improving workflow in both the EP and the cath labs with compatibility of GE’s Innova cardiovascular imaging systems and Hansen Medical’s robotic navigation technology.
Hansen Medical’s Sensei Robotic Catheter System is a robotic navigation system that enables clinicians to place mapping catheters in hard-to-reach anatomical locations within the heart easily, accurately and with stability during complex cardiac arrhythmia procedures.
GE’s Innova is a family of all-digital cardiovascular imaging systems. The company said the Innova X-ray imaging systems provide users with excellent image quality with industry leading dose efficiency. Built on GE’s industry leading Innova digital detector, the Innova System helps physicians visualize fine vessels, execute electrophysiology procedures, precisely place stents and successfully perform critical maneuvers. Cardiologists in the cardiac cath lab use it when performing procedures to view and treat potential coronary artery blockages that could cause heart attacks or other serious cardiovascular damage. The system is designed to provide cardiologists with more information than ever before, resulting in better diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
The Innova and Sensei system have been working in conjunction at Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital since early October 2008.
“The workflow is much improved and the compatibility has been seamless,” said Laurence Epstein, M.D., director of Brigham and Women’s electrophysiology lab. “Combining the imaging excellence of Innova with the precision guidance of Hansen’s robotics is truly helping us maximize patient care and minimize procedure time.”
Both GE Healthcare’s Innova system and Hansen Medical’s Sensei system are available for immediate sale, worldwide.
