New Marker for Image-Guided Surgery Allows Wireless Tracking

October 20, 2010

October 20, 2010 – A new type of sterile marker for image-guided surgery has been launchd. The Threaded Spherz, by IZI Medical Products, are compatible with BrainLab systems and help surgeons optimize minimally invasive techniques. The design provides auto-registration and localization of anatomical structures that enable surgeons to wirelessly track the position and orientation of any device from a frame of reference. Threaded Spherz are visible under x-ray and CT for added safety. “The new reflective markers were designed as a cost-efficient alternative for today’s advanced image-guided procedures,” said Helen Shafer, chief operating officer of IZI Medical Products. “As with all IZI Spherz, the new Threaded Spherz allow surgeons to track tools efficiently and map patient anatomy through procedures.” For more information: www.izimed.com
