Physio-Control Purchases Chest Comression System Maker

March 8, 2011

Physio-Control has acquired Swedish-based Jolife AB, the developer and manufacturer the automated Lucas Chest Compression System.

Prior to the acquisition, Physio-Control had been the exclusive distribution partner for the Lucas device since 2004. The terms of the agreement are not being disclosed.

The system primarily is radiotranslucent (except for the hood and piston) and allows for coronary angiography or angioplasty in the cath lab during ongoing compressions. In the hospital, cath lab personnel can remain at a safe distance from X-ray exposure while the device provides mechanical chest compressions during cath lab procedures.

Two versions of the system are available: an air-powered version (Lucas 1) and a battery-powered version (Lucas 2).
