St. Jude Releases Hybrid Sheath

October 25, 2007

October 24, 2007 – St. Jude Medical took the stage at TCT 2007 to introduce its new hybrid carotid guiding sheath, Strada, which is built like a guide wire by blending sheath and catheter guide wire technology in order to reach tortuous vascular vessels.

Specifically designed for the carotid anatomy, the sheath has five flexibility zones that provide distal flexibility and proximal support. The guide catheter construction reportedly provides kink resistance and back-up support, resulting from its stiffness profile, shortened hydrophilic coating and stainless steel braid reinforcement.

The company also announced the introduction of a new guide wire, the Tiger Wire, designed for use in tortuous anatomy in coronary and peripheral procedures. With a profile of .035, the wire has an atraumatic tip to avoid damaging vessels.
