Small Vessel Peripheral Imaging Catheter Launched

September 4, 2008

Boston Scientific launched its Atlantis 018 Peripheral Imaging Catheter, which reportedly brings existing 40MHz coronary standard ultrasound imaging resolution to peripheral interventions.

Until now, an intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) catheter was not available for peripheral vessels smaller than 8 mm. Boston Scientific said physicians can now expand care and address a broader range of small peripheral vessels.

The company’s iLab Ultrasound Imaging System, enables physicians to see images inside the heart and vessels to assist with diagnosis. The maker said one of the key benefits of IVUS is to offer a 360-degree view of the vessel wall from the inside, allowing a more complete and accurate assessment of the diseased vessel than is possible with angiography alone.
