San Diego Cardiac Center Goes Green With Solar Power

December 15, 2011 — The San Diego Cardiac Center recently installed a 252-panel, 60-kilowatt (kW) commercial solar system that was designed and installed by Stellar Solar. Stellar Solar was selected based on their track record of installing large-scale commercial installations in San Diego, including their recently completed 500kW Salk Institute project.

"As a leading cardiac center in San Diego, we saw this as an important opportunity to also demonstrate our environmental leadership and save a significant amount of money," said Ron Miller, M.D., of the San Diego Cardiac Center. "This was as much of a financial decision as it was an environmental one; we found we could produce our own solar electricity onsite for a cost that was about 70 percent lower than what SDG&E charges us. That said, we are very pleased to be contributing to cleaner air in San Diego and a healthier population."

Stellar Solar has been powering San Diego County homes and businesses since 1998. They are a residential and commercial photovoltaic solar design and installation company with more than 600 installations, ranging in size from 2kW to 1 megawatt (MW), throughout the Southwest.

San Diego Cardiac Center provides a synergistic approach to cardiology by offering prevention, diagnosis, intervention, and treatment. It is the only medical group in San Diego County covering all aspects of cardiac care, ranging from dietary management to heart transplant.
