Medical Video Expands Across Image Exchanges

TotalENT

April 22, 2010 - With the proliferation of telemedicine and tereradiology services, the two fields are crossing paths on over health care networks, and in particular in image-enabled electronic health records (EHRs), also known as image exchanges.

Radiologists and primary care physicians are increasingly transferring data to EHRs, creating a rich repository of patient data. These image exchange archives support both radiographic and video exams on the same platform. As a result, new applications, such as the TotalENT Light Box, a camera and illumination source for live video of body orifices, are gaining ground in medical imaging arena.

Developed primarily for use by ear, nose and throat physicians, the TotalENT system works with specific scopes to shed light in body orifices so the camera can capture live video images for telemedicine and display them on a GlobalMedia i8500 Mobile Video Cart. TotalENT is engineered to provide maximum flexibility and control with any endoscopic device and provides quality images for several applications in telemedicine.

The light source for TotalENT is a 24-watt short arc xenon medical halide for otoscopes, nasopharyngoscopes and rigid scopes to examine the larynx. The TotalENT is made for GlobalMedia by JEDMED, a medical instrument company based in St. Louis. The system is designed to provide a crisp image and allow easy integration into GlobalMedia’s telemedicine carts.
