Turnkey PACS Tablet Displays Images Instantly

February 11, 2011 — Exam-Pad Model 10 is the first turnkey picture archiving and commuication systems (PACS) tablet that combines instant, virtual, worldwide wireless access to medical images in a Windows 7 Professional environment. Its hardware and software features include: a 10.1-inch capacitive multi-touch 1,024 x 600 LED display; built-in B, G and N WLAN WiFi; 3G and Edge phone network; USB and Bluetooth connectivity to Web-based video streaming, and the latest touch-screen operation.

The new Exam-Pad Model 10 features CoActiv World-PACS exam viewing technology, which takes advantage of built in WiFi and 3G technology to connect to the user’s onsite Exam-PACS server to display high-quality multi-modality images securely in real time from anywhere in the world. Enabling this is CoActiv’s use of the latest SSL secure communications protocol, which delivers data in full HIPAA compliance without legacy VPN technology. As they are viewed remotely, images can be manipulated easily using a sophisticated range of Exam-PACS tools.

Exam-Pad Model 10 also features CoActiv’s new Exam-Jacket technology, which provides a visual timeline of a patient’s complete imaging history and one-click access to prior exams, report impressions and full reports, as well as scanned data. With Exam-Pad, radiologists have complete access to their entire patient imaging archive anywhere a WiFi or 3G connection is available worldwide.

The device provides connectivity for a mouse, keyboard and external 1.3 MP displays and comes pre-configured for connectivity with the user’s on-site Exam-PACS solution. It also can support other PACS solutions that are capable of DICOM query and retrieve. (Other PACS solutions not using SSL technology may require the use of VPN connectivity for secure exam access.)

Exam-Pad uses an Intel high-speed Atom mobile processor, 2-GB of DDR-2 memory, 250 GB hard drive and two USB 2.0 ports to support easy data transfer via flash drives or any USB CD/DVD drive. A built-in SD-Card reader, SIM socket and both microphone and speaker/headphone ports enable full mobile voice communications, while a 3.1 mega-pixel Web-cam supports video conferencing technologies, including Skype.

A VGA port and included VGA adapter accepts external monitors and projectors for high-resolution 1,280 x 1,024 presentation. Exam-Pad also has built-in wired LAN connectivity, auto-sensing landscape and portrait viewing, four-cell lithium-ion battery and universal power adapter/charger.

Exam-Pad is not intended for diagnostic use.
