Nov. 12. 2025 — The American Heart Association’s Council on Clinical Cardiology has selected Roxana Mehran, MD, as the recipient of its 2025 Laennec Master Clinician Award. Mehran is Director of Interventional Cardiovascular Research and Clinical Trials at the Zena and Michael A. Wiener Cardiovascular Institute at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
This award recognizes Dr. Mehran’s individual lifetime achievements in patient care and cardiology education. She was presented with this award during at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions in New Orleans.
This distinction also recognizes Dr. Mehran for her exceptional insight in correlating the pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease with clinical findings at the bedside; achieving national and international recognition for expertise in the signs, symptoms, and pathophysiology of a significant area of cardiovascular disease; and receiving national and international acclaim for applying diagnostic technology in patient care and teaching within the field of cardiology. “This award is deeply meaningful to me because it recognizes what has always been at the heart of my career—bridging science and clinical care. Teaching and mentoring the next generation of cardiologists, while bringing the latest scientific insights directly to patients, has been one of the greatest privileges of my professional life. The true essence of medicine lies in that connection between discovery, knowledge, and compassionate care,” says Dr. Mehran, who is also Mount Sinai Professor in Cardiovascular Clinical Research and Outcomes at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. “I am immensely grateful to the American Heart Association for bestowing this honor upon me, and look forward to continuing my volunteer work with this one-of-a-kind organization.”
This is the third high-distinction award in cardiology bestowed upon Dr. Mehran this year. In 2025 she was also recognized with the Master of Masters Award at Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics Asia Pacific, and the European Society of Cardiology Gold Medal Award.
