SCCT Announces New Category 1 Codes for Cardiac CT

October 12, 2009 – The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) announced four new Category 1 CPT codes for cardiac computed tomography will become effective Jan. 1, 2010.

Category 1 CPT codes are restricted to clinically recognized and generally accepted services. SCCT said the accomplishment of gaining these new codes represents a significant step forward to achieve broader patient access to this proven technology. The CCT/CCTA code change proposals were initiated jointly by the multispecialty society collaboration led by SCCT. This work, done over the course of the last two years and with the approval of the AMA CPT Panel, finalized greatly simplified codes to report CCT/CCTA procedures in 2010.

SCCT is the recognized representative and advocate for physicians, scientists, and technologists who work in the field of cardiovascular computed tomography. With a membership of over 4,000, it is nationally and internationally viewed as the principal independent organization committed to the further development of cardiovascular computed tomography through education, training, accreditation, quality control and research.
