Virtual Reality Simulation Company Collaborates with American College of Cardiology to Help Cardiovascular Clinicians Immersively Practice Clinical Procedures

April 4, 2024 — Osso VR, a leader in immersive procedural training, announces the release of a co-developed curriculum with the American College of Cardiology (ACC). This collaboration expands Osso VR’s presence in the cardiovascular sector.

With the integration of Osso VR's immersive technology and the expertise of the ACC, interventionalists will gain access to a state-of-the-art training simulation of the workflow and skills required to successfully perform a left atrial appendage occlusion procedure (LAAO). Osso VR’s platform offers a realistic and engaging learning experience that allows users to run through complex scenarios in a repeatable, risk-free virtual environment.

Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion (LAAO) procedures are done to reduce the risk of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation by sealing off the left atrial appendage, preventing the formation of blood clots. This procedure was selected because of the wide variety of complex skills necessary to successfully perform it, including Transesophageal Echocardiography.

Osso’s platform addresses these challenges by providing comprehensive, live imaging and refined instrumentation control on a (virtually) living, breathing patient.

“ACC’s goal is to improve access to high-quality cardiovascular care. We are thrilled to collaborate with Osso VR to augment traditional interventional training for some of the more complex and cutting-edge procedures in our field,” said Ami Bhatt, MD, FACC, ACC Chief Innovation Officer. “This collaboration is the first step in a broader effort to increase access to consistent interventional cardiovascular care in the U.S. and globally."

Both Osso VR and the American College of Cardiology are committed to excellence in medical education and patient care. Through this collaboration, they are empowering healthcare providers with the tools and resources needed to master cardiology procedures, stay abreast of advancements in cardiovascular medicine, and optimize their performance.

"We're honored to introduce our cardiology module in collaboration with the ACC. The ACC has transformed the way cardiovascular care is being delivered – with innovation and technology being a cornerstone of this success. The alignment of our institutions’ missions is strong, and with the vision of organizations like the ACC, we are progressively seeing immersive training become the standard for provider education globally," said Justin Barad, MD, founder and Chief Strategy Officer at Osso VR.

Osso VR will be offering a demonstration of its LAAO training in the Personalized Skills and Simulation Center at the ACC Annual Scientific Session from April 6-8, 2024, at the Georgia World Congress Center.
