Edwards offers PediaSat Oximetry Catheter, FloTrac System

Edwards Lifesciences will display its PediaSat oximetry catheter and FloTrac system at the 2007 ASA show.
PediaSat is designed specifically for children and continuously monitors ScvO2 (central venous oxygen saturation) from a central line. The company says it is more accurate versus CO-oximetery, and it minimizes the need for frequent diagnostic sampling, thereby decreasing potential risk of infection and blood loss.
Edwards said the device can also help guide therapy to detect life-threatening decreases in systemic oxygen delivery that intermittent sampling can miss. They said this will reduce morbidity in congenital heart surgeries and in adult patients with severe sepsis and septic shock.
Edwards will also show off its FloTrac system, which includes a FloTrac sensor and Vigileo monitor. It provides continuous hemodynamic insight using an existing arterial catheter with continuous self-calibration. The system now includes advanced SVV trending screens that provide vital information for early action, while complementing clinical workflow.
