Airstrip Innovation Marketplace Program Announces First Two Collaborations

March 4, 2014 — The University of Michigan’s Center for Integrative Research in Critical Care (MCIRCC) has entered into a letter of intent with AirStrip with the goal of executing future collaborations, and MedStar Health has entered into a collaboration agreement with AirStrip. Both agreements are part of the AirStrip Innovation Marketplace (AIM) program.

MCIRCC is a University of Michigan-based multidisciplinary research institute devoted to improving the care of critical illness and injury victims by pushing research. Critical care represents a yearly cost to the U.S. economy in excess of $250 billion, accounting for nearly 40 percent of total annual hospital costs.

Physicians, engineers and others from MCIRCC intend to work with AirStrip to develop a commercially viable clinical decision support (CDS) platform that will enable clinicians to make faster decisions and implement personalized, patient-centric treatment options for improved clinical outcomes. The CDS platform will potentially provide life-saving utility throughout the critical care continuum, from battlefield-to-ambulance scenarios all the way through hospital-to-home transitions.

The AIM program has also reached a collaboration agreement with MedStar Health, developer of enhanced cardiac diagnostic visualizations. Together they will seek ways to integrate with AirStrip One, an enterprise-wide interoperable mobility solution. MedStar Health is a healthcare system in Maryland and the Washington, D.C., region and is dedicated to caring for people and advancing health.

AIM collaborates with healthcare providers, public sector agencies, academic organizations and technology companies to support the accelerated incorporation of scientific discoveries and innovation into clinical practice. The program focuses on the practice-oriented stage of translational science and moving evidence-based guidelines into practical application, while creating new revenue models for program participants.
