Studies Show Improvements With Chronic Angina Drug

February 25, 2010 – Recent clinical studies of Ranexa, a prescription medication used to treat adults with chronic angina, indicate several positive benefits from treatment with this drug.

Chronic angina is chest pain, discomfort or pressure that is brought on by exercise, extreme temperatures, mental or emotional stress, or walking in cold weather, uphill or after eating. Ranexa can help to reduce the number of angina attacks if taken as prescribed, but it does not stop angina attacks once they have started.

In one clinical study the results included fewer angina attacks, less nitroglycerin use and the ability to walk for longer period of times during incline treadmill test.

The drug is manufactured by Gilead Sciences Inc., a research-based biopharmaceutical company which focuses primarily on serious cardiovascular and respiratory conditions, as well as HIV/AIDS and liver disease.
