Workflow Automation System Uses Ultrasound Locating From Sonitor Technologies

May 20, 2008 - Patient Care Technology Systems (PCTS) said today Providence Portland Medical Center (PPMC), Portland, OR has implemented Amelior ORTracker version 2.6 in its perioperative department.

The software was implemented with an ultrasound real-time locating system from PCTS partner Sonitor Technologies. The system was implemented to help improve the efficiency of surgical care by visualizing the real-time care status of patients and the location of department resources utilizing the latest in perioperative workflow automation technologies. The implementation represents an upgrade to the original Amelior ORTracker system installed four years ago using the first generation of the software without a real time location system.

The automatic tracking system utilizes an ultrasound indoor positioning system within the perioperative department to capture the real time location of personnel and equipment. Wireless badges for patients and mobile medical devices use an ultrasound signal to communicate room and sub-room level location information to sensors throughout the perioperative department. The Web-based Amelior ORTracker software uses an advanced perioperative rules engine to identify patient care milestones based on the location, movement and interactions between patients, caregivers and medical devices. Caregivers are able to visualize patient flow using status view screens specific to each unit within the perioperative department without having to manually enter data or rely on telephones and overhead pages to manage their workflow.

The Amelior ORTracker software is part of PCTS’ suite of department-specific and enterprise-wide workflow automation solutions, which utilize real-time location data to visualize patient flow enabling busy caregivers to anticipate and manage their workflows. Earlier this year, 3M Track and Trace Solutions announced a strategic teaming partnership with PCTS to bring PCTS’ portfolio of integrated workflow automation solutions to 3M’s customers. The 3M and PCTS teaming partnership spans both technology and go-to-market integration.
