Oct. 29, 2026 — Johnson & Johnson has announced 26 presentations featuring the clinical science of Impella heart pumps will be presented at the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) 2026 conference, Oct. 31–Nov. 3, in San Diego. The breadth of research reflects the company’s continued leadership in generating rigorous clinical evidence to advance the science of heart recovery and improve outcomes for patients facing complex and life-threatening cardiovascular conditions.
Johnson & Johnson MedTech’s body of clinical evidence in heart recovery spans more than two decades, including randomized controlled trials (RCTs), prospective studies, registries and real-world clinical practice. More than 50,000 Impella patients have been studied, and more than 450,000 patients worldwide have been treated with Impella. This evidence base includes approximately 2,700 peer-reviewed publications and has contributed to the recognition of temporary mechanical circulatory support with Impella in 18 clinical guidelines and consensus statements.
Impella clinical data being presented at TCT builds on that scientific foundation and includes new research from centers around the world across high-risk percutaneous coronary intervention (HRPCI), cardiogenic shock, myocardial recovery, renal perfusion, physiologic risk and next-generation technology. Among the presentations are three analyses of contemporary U.S. and European experience with Impella-supported HRPCI that provide important clinical context in contrast to the CHIP-BCIS3 study results.
“Scientific leadership requires sustained investment, rigorous evaluation of high-quality data, and a willingness to continually improve how we care for patients,” said Navin Kapur, M.D., chief medical and scientific officer, Heart Recovery, MedTech, Johnson & Johnson. “The record 26 Impella abstracts at TCT reflect our commitment to partnering with the clinical community to generate the evidence needed to advance understanding, inform best practices and help physicians deliver better outcomes for patients worldwide.”
In addition, a novel health-economic model projecting lower lifetime healthcare costs and greater quality-adjusted survival with Impella compared with Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump in heart failure patients undergoing HRPCI will be presented.

HRPCI in Heart Failure: The Impact of Left Ventricular Unloading on Cost Effectiveness – a Markov Model. (M. Kodenchery, MD)
Impella Events
Johnson & Johnson MedTech will bring together the clinical community for two events designed to share best practices and promote scientific discussion about the 20 years of clinical evidence supporting the use of Impella across its multiple indications.
-
On Nov. 1, the evening program, featuring Devi Govender, worldwide president, and Navin Kapur, M.D., chief medical and scientific officer, Heart Recovery, MedTech, Johnson & Johnson, will bring together colleagues and leading investigators for an evening of scientific dialogue and discussion around the latest developments in Heart Recovery.
-
Johnson & Johnson also will host the World Connect Symposium, Leading in Heart Recovery: Lessons Learned from the Clinical and Scientific Experience with Impella, on Nov. 2. The program will bring together leading experts on AMI cardiogenic shock and HRPCI to discuss emerging science and evidence and the future of heart recovery.
-
Attendees can also visit Johnson & Johnson MedTech at Booth #4037 to explore Impella technology and connect with members of the heart recovery team.
Innovation and Scientific Evidence
At TCT, attendees will learn about the continued evolution of Impella technology, including prospective evidence from the Impella ECP pivotal trial and continuing access protocol evaluating lower-profile mechanical circulatory support during HRPCI. The scientific program will also feature emerging research intended to deepen understanding of myocardial recovery, renal perfusion and physiologic risk.
Details on key Impella presentations include:
-
TCT 197: Protected PCI with Microaxial-Flow Pump Support: Real-World Evidence from the TRI-GUARD-PCI Registry (M. Bossard)
-
TCT 467: Site-Level Analysis of Infarct Size Reduction with LV Unloading in the STEMI-Door to Unload Trial (N. Mangner)
-
TCT 391: HRPCI in Heart Failure: The Impact of Left Ventricular Unloading on Cost Effectiveness: A Markov Model. (M. Kodenchery)
-
TCT 888: Peri-procedural and Early Post-Procedural Mortality Following HRPCI (V. Panoulas)
-
TCT 1228: Clinical Characteristics and Early Mortality in a High-Risk PCI Cohort Similar to CHIP-BCIS3 Undergoing Impella Support: Insights from PROTECT III. (V. Panoulas, MD)
This work builds on a long-term commitment to evidence generation that has helped inform clinical practice and the evolution of care guidelines. Through ongoing and planned studies — including PROTECT IV RCT and other research across ischemic heart disease, heart failure, cardiac surgery and cardiogenic shock — Johnson & Johnson MedTech continues to partner with investigators and clinicians to advance the field and improve care for patients.
