December 18, 2007 - Forest Laboratories Inc. and Mylan Inc. announced today that the FDA cleared the novel beta blocker Bystolic (nebivolol) for the treatment of hypertension.

Bystolic is a once daily medication that can be used alone or in combination with other hypertension treatments.

December 17, 2007 - Boston Scientific Corp. and Avista Capital Partners announced that Avista will acquire Boston Scientific’s Fluid Management and Venous Access businesses for $425 million in cash as part of Boston Scientific’s plan to divest non-strategic assets.

The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2008, subject to regulatory approvals and customary conditions.

December 17, 2007 - Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. said Monday it has signed an agreement to sell its medical imaging unit to Avista Capital Partner for approximately $525 million.

The unit, Billerica, MA-based Bristol-Myers Squibb Medical Imaging, is a supplier of medical imaging products for nuclear and ultrasound cardiovascular diagnostic imaging procedures.

December 17, 2007 - Medtronic Inc. today announced it received FDA clearance of the Reveal DX and Reveal XT, new insertable cardiac monitors (ICMs) designed to provide diagnostic and monitoring insights to cardiologists managing their patients with syncope (fainting) or abnormal heart rhythms, including ventricular tachyarrhythmias (VT), fast ventricular tachyarrhythmias (FVT), bradyarrhythmias and asystole.
