Drug Attacks Cholesterol In Two Ways

Vytorin is a medicine used to lower levels of total cholesterol, LDL (bad) cholesterol, and fatty substances called triglycerides in the blood. The prescription-only medication is intended for patients who cannot control their cholesterol levels by diet and exercise alone.

It works to reduce your cholesterol in two ways: It reduces the cholesterol absorbed in your digestive tract as well as the cholesterol your body makes by itself. Additionally, Vytorni raises levels of HDL (good) cholesterol. It has not been shown to reduce heart attacks or strokes more than Zocor alone.

The drug helps block the absorption of cholesterol from the foods eaten and reduces the cholesterol made naturally by human bodies. It contains two cholesterol medicines, Zetia (ezetimibe) and Zocor (simvastatin), in a single tablet.

In clinical studies, VYTORIN was proven to lower bad cholesterol 45 percent to 60 percent (average effect depending on dose).
