$1 Million in Medical Equipment Ships with ER Docs to Haiti

January 20, 2010 - Nearly $1 million of medical equipment and supplies donated by a leading medical manufacturer is being shipped today to Haitia for a team of Caritas Christi clinicians headed to Sacre Coeur Hospital, in Milot, Haiti, north of Port-au-Prince, to use to treat victims of the recent earthquake.

Caritas Christi Health Care, as well as other donors, has provided an additional $2 million of supplies and funding. An initial team of 12 clinicians from Caritas Christi Health Care are departing for Haiti to help care for victims of the earthquake. Led by Mark Pearlmutter, M.D., chief of emergency medicine for Caritas Christi, the team will travel with technology to establish real-time communication and consultation capability on-site, allowing the team to consult with Caritas Christi specialists in Boston.

The medical team will departed today at 7:00 a.m. on a privately chartered jet provided by John Fish of Suffolk Construction. The initial team of 12 will be on the ground in Haiti establishing operations, and will be supplemented by additional relief resources and staff as the aid efforts continue.

Philips Healthcare, a longstanding partner of Caritas Christi Health Care, will support clinicians with a variety of medical products. They include: OR monitors, vital signs monitors, defibrillators, fetal monitors, cardiographs (EKGs), ventilators and medical supplies. Caritas Christi will also provide supplies and equipment to fill any medical needs identified by the team.

· Philips PageWriter Trim III Cardiographs
· Philips IntelliVue MP70 OR monitors with G5 Gas Analyzers
· Philips IntelliVue MP30/50 ICU Monitors
· Philips SureSigns VS2 Low Acuity monitors with rollstands
· Philips HeartStart XL Defibrillators
· Philips Respironics V60 ventilators
