Cardiac Mapping System Launched in Japan

August 30, 2010 - A system was released in Japan last week that helps guide treatment of cardiac arrhythmias by creating a 3-D cardiac map and model based on the information from electrophysiology (EP) catheters.

St. Jude Medical is launching its EnSite Velocity Cardiac Mapping System. Advancements in the technology of both the hardware and software for the EnSite Velocity System were designed to increase procedural Cardiac Mapping System Launched in Japan, increase efficiency and speed, and potentially improve ease of use from set-up and operation to clinical application.

The new system hardware requires less space, offers a simpler set-up, using color-coding for each connector, and has an increased number of input channels. The software offers a completely re-designed and user friendly user interface that has two highly differentiated new capabilities:

OneMap Tool

The new OneMap tool allows physicians to create a detailed cardiac model and electrical map together using information from multiple catheters and electrodes. This feature offers the potential to assist physicians in collecting and displaying a greater amount of information in a shorter amount of time.

RealReview Function

The new RealReview function provides real-time, side-by-side views of the live procedure and previously recorded portions of the procedure. This enables physicians to view a quick and easy comparison of events and results at different times throughout the procedure without losing the ability to visualize and navigate catheters in real-time.

Because of the real time ability to display catheter location, the system has the longstanding ability to reduce fluoroscopy exposure. It also supports both contact and non-contact mapping, giving the EnSite Velocity System the ability to map any arrhythmia. The system’s open platform, offers compatibility with essentially all diagnostic and ablation catheters, recording systems and radiofrequency generators used for cardiac ablation procedures.
