January 28, 2009 - SurModics Inc. and Nexeon MedSystems Inc. this week signed a licensing agreement to collaborate on development of a novel stent system for the treatment of renal artery disease.

This agreement is in addition to the prior one announced in July 2007 to develop a novel stent system for coronary artery disease, which is now in clinical trials. SurModics is also an equity investor in Nexeon MedSystems.

January 28, 2009 - The AF Summit returns this year during Heart Rhythm 2009, set for May 13-16 in Boston, after a sold-out event at Heart Rhythm 2007.

This one-and-a-half-day summit will highlight the latest advances in atrial fibrillation and including a jointly sponsored session with the American Association for Thoracic Surgery (AATS).

The sessions on Wednesday, May 13 will cover pushing the envelope of scientific and personal discovery, ablative intervention in 2010, ablation vs. surgery for AF and a keynote by Dr. J. Craig Venter.

January 28, 2009 - FluoroPharma Inc., a molecular imaging company engaged in the discovery and development of proprietary products for the PET market, said it has received a U.S. Patent covering methods of imaging cardiovascular plaque formation using F18 labeled 2-fluorodeoxy-D-glucose (FDG).

This patent, exclusively licensed from the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH), provides FluoroPharma with additional patent claims that cover imaging of atherosclerotic plaque inflammation and rupture.

January 28, 2008 - Wolters Kluwer Health recently said Adena Health System has selected ProVation MD for Cardiology for procedure documentation and coding.

Adena, which currently uses ProVation MD for Gastroenterology and Pulmonary procedures, will use the software to document diagnostic, interventional and peripheral vascular cases at its Adena Regional Medical Center catheterization lab in Chillicothe, OH.

January 28, 2009 - Data published this week in the online journal Circulation from the SPIRIT III U.S. pivotal trial demonstrates that the XIENCE V everolimus-eluting coronary stent system outperforms the TAXUS Express2 paclitaxel-eluting coronary stent system in reducing a patient’s likelihood of suffering a heart attack or requiring a repeat intervention out to two years.

January 27, 2009- For the second straight year, GE Healthcare has earned top honors for Overall OEM Service for cardiovascular X-ray systems in the 2008 IMV ServiceTrak Imaging X-Ray Cardiovascular Systems report.

IMV ServiceTrak reports present a broad, independent analysis of service trends in the imaging industry. The 2008 cardiovascular X-ray survey included 694 responses across four major OEMs. GE received the highest ranking in 17 of the 34 service attributes and improvements in 26 categories.

January 27, 2009 - Lantheus Medical Imaging Inc. said today new data from a prospective, non-randomized, multi-national study shows gated single-photon emission computed tomographic (SPECT) myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) with Cardiolite (Kit for the Preparation of Technetium Tc99m Sestamibi for Injection) had a 96 percent negative predictive value for diagnosing extensive coronary artery disease in patients hospitalized with their first episode of heart failure.

These study findings were published in the January/February 2009 issue of The Journal of Nuclear Cardiology.

January 27, 2009 - The FDA notified healthcare professionals Monday that the makers of Plavix, Bristol-Myers Squibb/Sanofi Pharmaceuticals, agreed to work with FDA to conduct studies to get a better understanding of the effects of genetic factors and other drugs (especially the proton pump inhibitors - PPIs) on the effectiveness of clopidogrel.

January 27, 2009 - Medtronic Inc. today reported the first enrollment in VITALITY, the company’s post-market clinical study of its Talent Abdominal Stent Graft for the endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysms.
