August 5, 2008 - Philips Healthcare has developed a hand-carried cardiac ultrasound with reportedly advanced imaging quality.

The CX50 CompactXtreme hand-carried ultrasound system is set to commercially release in the fourth quarter of 2008, according to Philips.

Primarily designed for echocardiography, the CX50 was made with many of the same features from Philips’ iE33 echocardiography system, providing clinicians a portable ultrasound that can be used for diagnosis, according to Philips.

August 4, 2008 – New research shows abnormal heart rate turbulence (HRT), an ECG-based risk marker, is a significant risk predictor for sudden death in patients with congestive heart failure (CHF).

The study published in the August edition of the HeartRhythm Journal, the official journal of the Heart Rhythm Society, is the first to document abnormal HRT as an indicator of sudden, or arrhythmic death risk in patients with heart failure.
