April 30, 2007 — Virginia consumers can now find out the latest about how well their local hospitals perform in handling heart care — a new Virginia Health Information's (VHI's) report includes information on medical care for conditions like angina, heart attack and heart failure. Invasive procedures including cardiac catheterization, angioplasty (usually with stents to prop up arteries) and open heart surgery such as coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery and cardiac valve operations.

April 27, 2007 — Mobile Aspects, a provider of RFID-enabled solutions to improve medical device and supply management for hospitals, has received a patent for its iRISupply clinical resource management solution.

April 27, 2007 — Cardiac Science Corp. announced Thursday it has reached a settlement in its long-standing patent litigation with Philips. Under the settlement agreement, all claims by each side have been dismissed, and each side has been granted rights to the respective defibrillation technology patents of the other side that were a part of the suit.

In addition, Cardiac Science has been granted a perpetual, royalty-free, worldwide license to certain other defibrillation patents of Philips not associated with the suit in exchange for a one-time payment of $1 million.

April 27, 2007 — Berlin-based BIOTRONIK announced today that is launching a worldwide long-term clinical study to investigate the effectiveness of ablation therapy in patients suffering from atrial fibrillation and congestive heart failure. The CASTLE-AF Study (Catheter Ablation versus Conventional Treatment in Patients with Left Ventricular Dysfunction and Atrial Fibrillation) will compare the clinical effect of ablation therapy to the conventional therapy for atrial fibrillation regarding the treated patient's life expectancy and hospitalization.

April 26, 2007 — ZOLL Medical Corp., manufacturer of resuscitation devices and related software solutions, announced today the release of a new model of the ZOLL AutoPulse Non-Invasive Cardiac Support Pump, which can document, store and upload device and patient data.

The new capability allows uploading of information from as many as four patients to ZOLL RescueNet Code Review or CodeNet software via an infrared communications port on the AutoPulse.
