June 18, 2007 - Siemens Medical Solutions Ultrasound Division is showcasing its comprehensive cardiovascular risk assessment solutions on its ACUSON X300 ultrasound platform at the 18th Annual Scientific Sessions of the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE), in Seattle, with the purpose of testing patients’ vascular age.
The company’s syngo Arterial Health Package (AHP) for cardiovascular risk assessment provides semi-automated quantification tools for users that help to assess the cardiovascular risk potential of patients using the concept of “vascular age.”

June 15, 2007 — Heart attack patients receive lifesaving care up to an hour sooner after an Indiana hospital implements a novel protocol to rapidly activate their cardiac catheterization lab.

According to a report in the Journal of the American Heart Association, patients who arrived at the cardiac catheterization lab ("cath lab") sooner for artery-opening procedures had less heart damage and shorter hospital stay compared to the traditional protocol.

June 15, 2007 — Johnson & Johnson says U.S. regulators have ended almost three years of sanctions over manufacturing quality that limited the company's ability to sell drug-coated heart stents.

The FDA notified Cordis Corp., a unit of Johnson & Johnson, that it had lifted a warning letter that had been issued in 2004. The letter dealt with quality assurance at seven manufacturing plants.

Jun 15, 2007 - Hansen Medical, Inc. announced that it has shipped its first Sensei Robotic Catheter System, which received 510(k) clearance in May, and Artisan Control Catheters to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio, where physicians plan to use the device to assist in accessing hard-to-reach anatomy within heart chambers.

The new hardware features two dual core processors to provide an increase in performance. Also, image storage capacity has been doubled.

June 14, 2007 – Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. introduced a new advanced software package, SURESubtraction, for Toshiba’s Aquilion CT line designed to reduce CT examination time for patients exhibiting symptoms of neurological disorders by automating and streamlining bone subtraction.

June 14, 2007 — HD Medical Group Ltd. recently announced the ViScope 100 series, an audio-visual auscultation tool for effective cardiac triage.

The experimental device, which may be available in the U.S. next year, is able to detect heart noises that can signal an impending heart attack.

June 14, 2007 - GE Healthcare recently demonstrated technology advances in Helical Shuttle imaging, using the company’s LightSpeed VCT by generating CT Scans with an expanded image coverage of 210 millimeters on a 40-millimeter detector for both cardiac and liver exams.

Helical shuttle scanning continues to hold promise by providing wider image coverage for both dynamic angiography and perfusion studies. 210millimeters of coverage enables whole organ anatomical and physiological assessment on existing Computed Tomography (CT) technology.

The echocardiography reporting and workflow software, originally developed and used by echocardiography professionals at the Mayo Clinic, is now being offered to echo professionals world-wide.

June 13, 2007 - Ostial Solutions LLC announced that it has received FDA 510(k) clearance to market the Ostial Pro Stent Positioning System, a device that allows physicians to more accurately place a stent in selected coronary and renal procedures.

Ostial Pro has tiny gold-plated feet, which can be braced against an opening near a narrowed or closed artery. The system is designed to assist in implanting the stent at the correct location for maximum benefit with an accuracy of plus or minus 1 millimeter.
