World’s Smallest Dual-Chamber ICD Has 34 Joules of Output

At 29 cc, OVATIO DR by ELA Medical is the world’s smallest dual-chamber (DR) ICD, incorporating the AAIsafeR pacing mode and PARAD , which detects ventricular tachyarrhythmias.
The AAIsafeR promotes heart activity by limiting unnecessary stimulation in the right ventricle, and the PARAD/
PARAD protects patients from inappropriate shocks that may result from misclassified supraventricular tachyarrhythmias (SVTs).
The ICDs have 34 joules of maximum output, which may be useful for patients whose defibrillation threshold is particularly high and who may require more energy to terminate life-threatening arrhythmias.
