March 6, 2013 — Terumo Medical Corp. announced it filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Vascular Solutions Inc. and Lepu Medical Technology (Beijing) Co. Ltd. in the U.S. District Court of New Jersey.
The complaint alleges that R Band Radial Hemostasis Device distributed by Vascular Solutions and manufactured by Lepu Medical Technology infringes on a patent and trademark, which Terumo holds the U.S. rights to for its proprietary TR Band Radial Compression Device. Terumo seeks an injunction against further sales of the violative product.
"Terumo has made an enormous investment in developing intellectual property and absorbing costs associated with device design and commercialization of our transradial technology. The Terumo TR Band device is a critical part of our transradial solutions portfolio. We will vigorously take all steps necessary to ensure that our assets and intellectual property are protected," said Gael Tisack, vice president of intellectual property, Terumo Americas Holding.
