Toshiba Introduces SureSubtraction for Neuro CTA

June 14, 2007 – Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. introduced a new advanced software package, SURESubtraction, for Toshiba’s Aquilion CT line designed to reduce CT examination time for patients exhibiting symptoms of neurological disorders by automating and streamlining bone subtraction.
Currently, subtracting bone from neurological CT angiography procedures requires that physicians scan the brain twice, once with contrast and once without contrast, and then manually subtract bone structures from the image to better visualize the vessels and tissue. Toshiba’s SURESubtraction technology automates the bone subtraction process, reducing exam time by a reported 90 percent, according to the manufacturer.

SURESubtraction is an option for Toshiba’s 8-, 16-, 32- and 64-slice CT systems. Given the software’s ability to detect and subtract bone from images, it offers a number of clinical applications, including:
- Cerebral aneurysms – especially close to the bone
- Patients with ischemic disease – ICA, basilar artery
- Cases with stenosis or occlusion – close to bone
- Patients with a clip or coil
- Patients with calcification
- Patients with hypervascular tumor
- Patients scanned from neck to head

SURESubtraction will be clinically evaluated at a number of Toshiba’s luminary sites before it’s made available to customers.
