September 5, 2008 - Boston’s Brigham & Women’s (B&W) Hospital, a 777-bed teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School, has purchased an additional four CT systems from Siemens Medical Solutions USA, including two SOMATOM Definition AS 40-slice and two SOMATOM Definition AS 128-slice systems.

Siemens upgraded B&W’s four existing units – two SOMATOM Emotion 16-slice and two Sensation 64-slice – as part of its equipment contract. The terms of the new agreement with B&W will extend the contract for an additional nine years.

September 5, 2008 - Digirad Corp. today announced the initial clinical trial of its new SPECT imaging system incorporating new proprietary technology to correct attenuation, an inherent issue in cardiac SPECT imaging.

The new system, Cardius X-ACT, will be exhibited at the 2008 Annual Scientific Session of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology (ASNC) Sept. 10-14, 2008, at the John B. Hynes Convention Center in Boston.

September 5, 2008 - The results of the SYNTAX study, a head-to-head comparison between drug-eluting stents (DES) using percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) in patients with complex coronary disease, showed bypass is a better option.

The results were announced Sept. 1 at the annual European Society of Cardiology meeting in Munich, Germany.
