The in-person 2021 Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) meeting planned for Aug. 9-13 appeared to be the light at the end of the tunnel in the COVID-19 pandemic a few months ago. It was a sign that things will get better. And this appeared to be reflected with the virus cases dropping significantly since January 2021, due to the roll out of the vaccines. By June it appeared the pandemic was close to being over.

August 9, 2021 – Results from an international clinical trial show a significant reduction in risk of ventricular tachycardia (VT) recurrence, cardiovascular hospitalization, and sudden cardiac death (SCD) death when catheter ablation is used as an early first-line treatment for patients with structural heart disease. Led by study coordinating center, the University of Chicago, The PAUSE-SCD trial is the first VT ablation trial to include patients with nonischemic cardiomyopathy and to be conducted across Asia.

August 9, 2021 — Adagio Medical Inc., a provider of catheter ablation technologies for atrial fibrillation (AF) and ventricular tachycardia (VT), announced the results of its CryoCure-2 ultra-low temperature cryoablation (ULTC) prospective multi-center study in patients with AF at the 2021 Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) annual meeting. The trial examined the safety and efficacy of the Adagio Continuous Lesion Ablation System (iCLAS).

August 9, 2021 — Boston Scientific is recalling INGENIO family of pacemakers and CRT-Ps due to the risk of incorrect transition to safety mode. Safety mode is intended to provide backup if the device is faulty. However, in safety mode, there is a risk of inappropriate loss of pacing due to sensing of muscle contractions. If the device incorrectly goes into safety mode, the device cannot be reprogrammed and must be replaced.

August 5, 2021 —  A prospective, non-randomized, multicenter, first-in-human clinical study found good diagnostic and procedural guidance value using a new 3D/4D intracardiac echo (ICE) imaging catheter in radio frequency and cryo-ablation procedures, and left atrial appendage (LAA) occlusion procedures.

August 3, 2021 — A subgroup analysis of the EAST – AFNET 4 study population revealed early initiation of rhythm control therapy is associated with clinical benefit in patients with heart failure and recently diagnosed atrial fibrillation (AF). The new findings were presented by Dr. Andreas Rillig, University Heart Center Hamburg, Germany, at the Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) annual meeting.
