The Edwards Lifesciences unveiled a new software upgrade that allows greater flexibility to trend and analyze the patient parameters using its FloTrac system at the 2008 American Association of Critical Nurses National Teaching Institute May 3-8 Chicago.
The new features include trending and greater visibility for stroke volume and stroke volume variation, which used together provide both an indication of fluid responsiveness and a means of verifying that fluid is beneficial to the patient’s status. The company said calculator tools now enable continuous or time-specific analysis in order to more quickly quantify changes in patient condition. Additionally, the integrity of stroke volume variation in adverse situations is now preserved by FloTrac’s ability to identify excessive heart rate variability, such as arrhythmias.
The new version of FloTrac software provides an easier, faster, more efficient way to optimize your patient’s fluid balance. The FloTrac sensor connects to an existing arterial line and continuously provides real-time changes in cardiac output, stroke volume, and stroke volume variation
In 2005, Edwards introduced the FloTrac system, which is a minimally invasive hemodynamic monitoring device that connects to any existing arterial line and requires no manual calibration.
