A works-in-progress 160-detector row helical computed tomography (CT) scanning system is being unveiled on the Toshiba Aquilion One and Aquilion Premium during RSNA 2010. Ultra helical scanning can image the entire chest, abdomen and pelvis in less than five seconds, which is 2.5 times faster than standard 64-detector row CT imaging.

Target CTA and the works-in-progress Adaptive Iterative Dose Reduction (AIDR) technology, by Toshiba, lower radiation dose and make CT imaging safer for patients.

Target CTA is a dose cardiac protocol for the Aquilion ONE that is designed for patients with stable heart rates, including pediatrics. When used with the company’s SURECardio Prospective, which can reduce radiation dose by up to 80 percent, Target CTA can lower radiation by another 20 percent.

The Siemens Acuson S2000 ultrasound system, release 2.0, is a multi-specialty platform featuring 2-D and color Doppler imaging performance and a wide breadth of applications.

Applications such as Virtual Touch HD, the second generation of Acoustic Radiation Forced Impulse (ARFI) imaging, Cadence contrast pulse sequencing technology and 3-D/4-D imaging capabilities to provide insight into complex anatomy. Virtual Touch HD is not available in the United States.

The syngo.via imaging software, by Siemens, enables physicians to access advanced visualization tools across the clinical spectrum. It is designed to integrate with existing PACS and RIS systems, but offers direct, no-click access and a unified user interface with the company’s syngo.plaza PACS system.

The first-in-man use of the Coherex WaveCrest left atrial appendage (LAA) occluder system was successfully performed recently in New Zealand, launching the WAVECREST 1 trial to evaluate the device's effectiveness. The trial is being carried out in New Zealand, Australia and several European countries and will be used to seek CE mark approval for the device.

October 29, 2010 – Site enrollment has been completed for the 50-site CITADEL and CENTURION clinical studies to evaluate the Tyrx AigisRx Antibacterial Envelope. The device is designed to help reduce surgical-site infections (SSIs) associated with cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs).

October 29, 2010 – An automated anastomosis system to minimize operating time and enable minimally-invasive and robot-assisted coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery is being featured today in several demonstrations and wet lab presentations at the Advances in Robotic and Hybrid Coronary Revascularization conference.

October 29, 2010 – A new patient-friendly environment for radiology will be on display at RSNA 2010. The Philips Ambient Experience, first unveiled in the medical imaging department of Nemours Children’s Clinic in Jacksonville, Fla.

A new Eclipse Probe Cover designed to fit 3-D/4-D probes/transducers is made of pliable, latex-free polyethylene film and is pregelled inside with Aquasonic100 Ultrasound Transmission Gel.

The Eclipse 3-D Probe Cover slips easily over the 3-D/4-D probe/transducers. Each disposable probe cover is ready for immediate use.
