October 13, 2010 – A recall was issued for bottles of 40 mg Lipitor, due to a small number of reports of an uncharacteristic odor related to the packaging.

A medical assessment has determined that the odor is not likely to cause adverse health effects. However, Pfizer recommends that anyone taking 40 mg Lipitor who experiences a strange odor should return the tablets to their pharmacist.

October 13, 2010 – The anti-obesity drug sibutramine will be withdrawn from the U.S. market after a study found it had cardiovascular safety risks. Sibutramine (Meridia), made by Abbott, is a prescription medicine used to help overweight or obese people lose weight.

Abbott is voluntarily withdrawing the drug at the request of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

October 13, 2010 – Human trials commenced using a catheter guidance control and imaging (CGCI) system on patients with arrhythmias.

The Floor Post series of radiology workstations is designed to make the most of limited space by accommodating multiple simultaneous users.

It has a single column with a secure track on two sides for mounting monitors, keyboards and CPUs. The design allows for flexible configuration, with the option to create up to four workstations on one post. October 12, 2010 – A new collaborative Web portal brings a familiar user interface to the medical imaging world. Accelarad has updated its SeeMyRadiology.com portal to resemble LinkedIn and Facebook. The portal will be introduced at RSNA 2010.

October 8, 2010 — The Ivy Model 3000 Series Cardiac Trigger Monitor offers precision image-triggering nuclear medicine, computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems, with more than 16,000 different variations in use worldwide.

October 8, 2010 – Two new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scanners have received 510(k) FDA clearance and are now commercially available in the United States. The Siemens Magnetom Aera 1.5 Tesla and Magnetom Skyra 3T scanners are the first Tim 4G and DOT systems to receive U.S. clearance.

October 8, 2010 – New data from the HORIZONS-AMI trial shows that administering the anticoagulant bivalirudin (Angiomax) enhances survival in heart attack patients undergoing angioplasty after three years. The results were presented at the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) 2010 symposium in Washington, D.C.

October 8, 2010 – New features in the 2.0 version of the Acuson S2000 ultrasound system released today cover the entire continuum of care for vascular and cardiac imaging.

October 7, 2010 – The Superior Court of Massachusetts has ruled against LightLab Imaging in the company’s optical coherence tomography (OCT) trade secret case against Volcano and its wholly owned subsidiary, Axsun Technologies. LightLab Imaging is a wholly owned subsidiary of St. Jude Medical.
