KARL STORZ Endoscopy-America's Image 1 HD Video Platform has been recognized by the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons (SLS) as a 2007 Innovation of the Year.

Image 1 offers full HD, with 1920-by-1080 resolution and acquires and displays surgical images in a 16:9 aspect ratio to provide natural endoscopic views possible. Progressive scanning at 60 frames per second aims enable surgeons to capture fast-moving objects and produce sharper still images with less distortion, especially during rapid instrument movement.

Edwards Lifesciences will display its PediaSat oximetry catheter and FloTrac system at the 2007 ASA show.
PediaSat is designed specifically for children and continuously monitors ScvO2 (central venous oxygen saturation) from a central line. The company says it is more accurate versus CO-oximetery, and it minimizes the need for frequent diagnostic sampling, thereby decreasing potential risk of infection and blood loss.

March 24, 2008 – Doctors implanted the first CryoValve SG pulmonary human heart valve in a patient at St. Louis Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO, a device used for patients who have undergone pulmonary valve replacement surgery at a young age and may require another pulmonary valve replacement in adulthood.

The CryoValve SG is processed with SynerGraft technology, which is said to remove allogeneic donor cells and cellular remnants from the valve without compromising the integrity of the underlying collagen matrix.

Braun Medical Inc. was recently notified that 23 lots of its blood-thinning products containing heparin sodium USP active pharmaceutical ingredient are being recalled as part of the nationwide safety recall of heparin, prompted after the FDA found contamination in raw heparin stock imported from China.

March 18, 2008 - Cardinal Health and GE Healthcare penned a deal to broaden the availability of GE Healthcare's Myoview (Tetrofosmin) cardiac imaging agent through Cardinal Health's network of specialized nuclear pharmacies, giving Cardinal Health's customers greater access to Myoview, a myocardial perfusion imaging technetium agent used in the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease.

March 20, 2008 – The number of CT procedures performed continues to grow despite a slow down in CT system purchases from 2000 to 2008 in the U.S. as CT sites focus on the efficient utilization of their CT equipment, indicated a report by the IMV Medical Information Division.
An estimated 68.7 million CT procedures were performed in 7,640 hospital and non-hospital sites in 2007, said the report. This represents an average annual growth rate of approximately 8 percent since 2003, when an estimated 50.1 million procedures were performed.
