September 1, 2015 — A bioresorbable drug-eluting coronary stent showed similar efficacy and safety results compared to a metal stent in patients undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), according to results of the ABSORB Japan study.

The findings, reported in a Hot Line session at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) 2015 congress.


September 1, 2015 — Extending treatment with the anticoagulant bivalirudin for at least four hours after completion of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) does not improve outcomes compared to stopping the treatment immediately after the procedure, according to results from the MATRIX Treatment Duration trial.

August 28, 2015 — PinnacleHealth CardioVascular Institute enrolled the first patient in Pennsylvania and second in the United States in a trial assessing the safety and effectiveness of a new type of stent for blockages in the femoral artery. The new stent allows for greater flexibility within the artery and potentially less risk for stent fracture or re-narrowing after the stent is placed.
