June 30, 2008 - Kimberly-Clark Health Care said today it received an agreement from Novation to offer its alliance members the InteguSeal Microbial Sealant.

As part of Novation's New Technology Program, the agreement was awarded to the global healthcare business of Kimberly-Clark Corp. after Novation and its Clinical Council determined InteguSeal Microbial Sealant offers incremental benefit to patient care and patient safety.

June 27, 2008 - Eighty percent of students said EMR availability is important to their future practice choice, according to an annual survey of the Future Physicians of America conducted by Epocrates.

The random survey included 89 percent of whom are third or fourth year students.

Seventy percent of students are more likely to use an Internet or mobile device to help solve a clinical question, according to the survey.

Stage one includes hospitals that have installed electronic EMR systems in its primary ancillary departments the rest of the hospital relies on – the laboratory, pharmacy and radiology departments.

June 25, 2008 – Panasonic today released its Toughbook U1 hand-held computer designed for clinical mobile computing, which is in between the size of a tablet PC and a PDA device, and works using a full Windows XP or Vista operating system.

The ultra-mobile PC (UMPC) computer weighs just under 2 pounds, has a 5.6-inch glare-resistant LCD touch-screen, and measures 7 by 5.75 by 2 inches. Unlike a PDA, which uses a limited operating system, the U1 can use full operating system so it can easily integrate into a hospital’s existing computer systems.

June 25, 2008 - 3M Health Care this week launched of the 3M Filtro 1900 tie-on duckbill surgical mask that incorporates proprietary filtration media and a rayon outer layer for increased breathability and comfort.

The mask provides off-the-face comfort and unmuffled speech, the company said. The filter combination reduces fogging that results from breathing into a surgical mask, and has a lower delta P, a measurement sought by clinicians performing longer surgical procedures.

June 25, 2008 - The electromagnetic interference (EMI) produced by radio frequency identification (RFID) tracking systems can interfere with critical care medical devices, according to a new study by the Academic Medical Centre, University of Amsterdam, in the Netherlands.
