Stents Carotid

Carotid artery stenting is used to reopen carotid arteries narrowed by atherosclerotic lesions. The stent is designed to proper open a vessel segment treated with balloon angioplasty. Carotid plaques cause reduced blood flow to the brain and stroke. The alternative procedure is surgical endarterectomy, where the vessel is opened and the plaque removed.
