Satisfying the growing demand for tools that optimize data acquisition and transfer, Aquilion 64 CFX’s new workflow enhancements include a new CT software release, which speeds scanning and data analysis.

Numerous clinical data and physician-led presentations during the TCT meeting in October addressed the important role IVUS can play as part of every day interventional procedures. Topics of these presentations included current IVUS applications related to optimal drug-eluting stent (DES) sizing and placement, post-DES confirmation of expansion and apposition, and the ability of Volcano Corp.’s proprietary VH IVUS technology to identify plaque composition, and in turn help identify angiographically silent or intermediate lesions potentially at risk for a future coronary event.

From the AHA exhibit hall this week, GE Healthcare has highlighted new breakthroughs to its Vivid cardiovascular ultrasound platform. The Vivid 7 Dimension ‘06 is designed to help clinicians assess cardiovascular anatomy and LV function with more accuracy.

GE spokespeople underscored the system’s ability to improve a clinician’s diagnostic confidence by making 4D cardiovascular imaging easier to use during day-to-day clinical exams.

The diagnostic tools are in place, but the connection between imaging machines and data management systems needs to be tighter if cardiovascular practices are going to keep up with the ever-growing patient volume, experts at Siemens Medical Solutions said from the American Heart Association's (AHA) Scientific Sessions.

Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. held a grand opening Wednesday of the new Toshiba Education Center, a $6 million, 4,840 square-foot expansion to the Toshiba Training Academy that provides a full complement of state-of-the-art classrooms and labs equipped with Toshiba’s advanced CT, MR and Vascular products, including the Aquilion, Vantage and Infinix systems.

All Toshiba customer training will now take place at the center, as well as at institutions across the U.S., while Toshiba Service training continues at the Training Academy.

New tachycardia software for the Merlin Patient Care System by St. Jude Medical has received FDA approval. The software upgrade utilizes a state-of-the-art computer to program and interrogate cardiac rhythm management devices like pacemakers and implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICDs).
