The AB5000 Circulatory Support System provides temporary support for one or both sides of the natural heart in circumstances where the heart has failed, giving the patient’s heart the opportunity to rest and potentially recover – and giving surgeons the therapeutic flexibility necessary to determine the best endpoint for treatment.

ABIOMED Inc. is commencing its pilot clinical trial in the U.S. for the IMPELLA 2.5 minimally invasive ventricular assist device (VAD) after recent FDA approval. The approval is conditioned upon the company’s submission of additional information to the FDA within a limited time frame.
The Impella Recover 2.5, an investigational device, allows the heart to rest and recover by actively unloading the ventricle, reducing myocardial workload and oxygen consumption while increasing cardiac output, coronary and end-organ perfusion.

Siemens has introduced a 40-slice configuration to its Biograph family of PET/CT systems. The Biograph family — which consists of two-, six-, 16-, 40- and 64-slice configurations — is reportedly a comprehensive PET/CT product.
