May 11, 2018 — The post-approval study evaluating the safety and efficacy of MitraClip in a real-world, commercial setting was presented as late-breaking clinical science at the recent 2018 Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) 2018 Scientific Sessions. The prospective, single-arm, multi-center, observational study entitled, "The Abbott Post-Approval Study 1 MitraClip Registry: 1-year Results of the First 2,000 Patients in the Transcatheter Valve Therapy Registry," is the first to include echocardiographic, functional and quality of life outcomes.

A team led by Johns Hopkins University Researchers has discovered that protein clumps appear to accumulate in the diseased hearts of mice and people with heart failure. May 10, 2018 — A new consensus document has been issued to guide the optimal use of ionizing radiation in cardiovascular imaging. It offers expert consensus on the best practices for safety and effectiveness when using computed tomography (CT), nuclear imaging and angiographic/fluoroscopic imaging. 

Teleradiology company DocPanel announced a partnership with the University of Southern California (USC) Keck School of Medicine Department of Radiology that will give consumers access to Keck's 60 radiology subspecialists. DocPanel enables imaging centers to use USC experts who are focused on specific areas of the body, therefore providing unique perspective and accurate insights.

Results from the clinical study to evaluate Imricor’s Vision-MR Ablation Catheter for the treatment of atrial flutter under real-time magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) guidance will be presented at the 2018 Heart Rhythm Society (HRS) conference, May 9-12 in Boston. In the past, there was not much that could be done to mitigate the X-ray radiation exposure of interventional cardiologists or cath lab staff. Also years ago, the subspecialty of interventional cardiology was new and few people had experience with what happens to cath lab staff exposed to X-rays for 25-30 years over their career. Today, 30 years after interventional cardiology became a subspecialty, the impact of that exposure is coming to light.

We started our design from the ground up, tested many prototypes, did not want to compromise on radiation protection for any staff in the room no matter where they stood. 

The Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), in conjunction with Rep. Mia Love (R-Utah) participated in a panel discussion in the Cannon House Office Building in Washington, D.C., exploring how the toughest medical challenges can be treated by interventional radiologists.
