A high-sensitivity blood test could be used to predict which patients are at risk of a heart attack according to new research funded by the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

A new minimally invasive technique for repairing the most common cardiac birth defect in extremely premature newborns can be performed safely with a high success rate in babies as small as 755 grams – about 1.6 pounds – only a few days after birth.

January 4, 2017 — A smartphone application made it possible to use the iPhone camera to detect atrial fibrillation via facial signals and without physical contact, according to a preliminary study presented at the American Heart Association (AHA) Scientific Sessions 2016 in November.

The technology, called Cardiio Rhythm, detects subtle beat-to-beat variations in facial skin color, which reflect a person's heart rate fluctuation. They tested the app on 85 hospitalized patients, comparing the app to recordings on a 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG).

In addition to possessing a zen40HDR flat panel detector and Gigalix X-ray tube for outstanding image quality,  the ARTIS pheno boasts new 2k recording technology capable of delivering 2D imaging resolution that is four times higher in all recording processes than prior Siemens Healthineers systems.

January 3, 2017 — BioCardia Inc. announced in December the initiation of the CardiAMP Heart Failure pivotal trial, a randomized, controlled, multi-center study of up to 260 patients evaluating CardiAMP cell therapy at up to 40 clinical sites in the United States.

The Impella CP heart pump (Abiomed) demonstrated no improvement in mortality for patients with myocardial infarction and cardiogenic shock compared to intra-aortic balloon (IABP) counterpulsation in results from the prospective, randomized, multi-center IMPRESS Trial presented at Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) 2016.  However, the trial was limited to 48 patients and was too underpowered to show differences in clinical outcome,  but was completed as an exploratory safety study.
