May 17, 2020 – Trial results presented today revealed a promising therapy for patients experiencing angina due to coronary microvascular dysfunction (CMD). The results of the study were presented as feature clinical research during the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) 2020 Virtual Conference. CMD is heart disease that causes the small blood vessels feeding the heart muscle to not work as normal.

May 17, 2020 – Patients with high lipid levels have an increased risk for ischemic events, despite statin therapy. Findings presented as late-breaking science during the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) 2020 Virtual Conference show statin-treated patients with elevated triglycerides and increased cardiovascular risk, icosapent ethyl (Vascepa) significantly reduced first and subsequent revascularizations compared with placebo.

May 17, 2020 – A new study sought to reveal whether drug-eluting stents (DES) coated with bioabsorbable polymer (BP) presented a safety advantage without compromising efficacy compared to durable polymer (DP) formulations. May 17, 2020 — Cindy Grines, M.D., MSCAI, a world-renowned physician credited for pioneering percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for heart attacks, has assumed the office of president of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI). Grines’ tenure as president officially begans Saturday, May 16, during the SCAI 2020 Scientific Sessions Virtual Conference. Grines is the third female interventionalist to lead the society.

May 15, 2020 – A late-breaking study aimed to evaluate whether optical coherence tomography (OCT) can predict fractional flow reserve (FFR) values and assess if OCT parameters may predict clinical outcome in patients with negative FFR.

May 15, 2020 – The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) issued a position statement on the performance of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in ambulatory surgical centers (ASCs) during its 2020 virtual meeting.[1] The document was also published in SCAI’s official journal, Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions.

Over the past three months COVID-19 has dominated nearly all healthcare news, so it is not surprising that the virus highlighted the opening sessions of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) Scientific Sessions 2020 Virtual Conference, May 14-16, 2020.

May 14, 2020 – Medtronic announced results from late-breaking clinical trials evaluating the MyCareLink Heart mobile app and the Micra Transcatheter Pacing System (TPS), products that provide needed care for patients and optimal management of their symptoms – while reducing potential exposure between patients and their clinicians. During the current COVID-19 pandemic, procedures and therapies that reduce exposure to other people are important because that also reduces the potential for spreading the virus.
